A young girl was reportedly sold by her own mother in Sangrur in Punjab. The 14-year-old, who is now pregnant, has been rescued by the police. She says she was forced into marriage and then she was raped. The police are on the lookout for the mother who is on the run.This 14-year-old claims she was sold by her mother and forced to marry. What followed was a nightmare. She says she was regularly raped by her husband and father-in-law. She was also allegedly beaten and kept in confinement.The police rescued her on Sunday after her father came to know she was forcibly married."They use to drug me and then rape me. Both my husband and father-in-law raped me," said the victim.At a time she should have been in school, she is one-month pregnant. Police have arrested two people including her husband.Police are looking at the possibility of a gang operating in the area involved in child marriages and selling young girls."We have rescued the girl. We will take the investigations further and see who all are involved," said Ram Singh, SHO, Sangrur.
